For some users it might be needed to have the configuration file (wd-options.cfg) remotely or centralized. Meaning that it will be saved at an FTP (can be sFTP or FTPs) location and have the software download the config file before booting the software.

An user case can be that the software settings (wd-options.cfg or any other config file) can be updated without the engineers have to make the changes or copy the file to their USB.

We do have a few options for this: an full ISO behind a FTP with no password, or a config file behind a password protected FTP, like sFTP or FTPs.

Full ISO:

It is possible to add the remote config location in the ISO settings. You need to define in 2 files in the ISO that will be used to create a USB, the location of the ISO.

remote_iso=https://{domain}/{folder location}/wd-enterprise-dongle.iso

{Domain} this will be the server location, like www.global-emea.com

{Folder location} this will be the folder structure, like /wipedrive/

Note: the server can be http or https, and the .iso filename must match the one used on the server.

More information can be found here:

As this might be quite complicated to setup the first time, it might be good to email our support team at support@global-emea.com so we can help you get this setup the first time.

sFTP or FTPs:

When the FTP server needs a password to download the files it will not work to add only the ISO location in the config. For this you do not need remote_iso as shown above, but you need to put the file on a server location.

Than a .sh file must be created. The file must be named pre-wd.sh and needs to contain below text:

#!/bin/bash

curl -O -k sftp://path-to-file -u username:password

The sftp can also be ftps. Both orange parts need to be changed to the values you're using.

Curl will download the file from the sFTP or FTPs location, using the pre-defined username and password.

This setup will work with "curl -O -k https://path-to-file" without the username and password.
