To have USB drives detected and be able to be wiped please make sure below settings are set as in this example. It would be easier to boot from a USB.
#only-usb-drives=true
#ignore-usb-drives=true
#ignore-usb-boot-drives=true
#ignore-windows-drives=true
log-removable=<tag filename>
allow-non-tagged-removables-to-be-wiped=true
At the place of <tag filename> you have to define a filename that will be reconized by the software so it will not wipe that stick. If you use the bootable USB stick you can use the wd-options.cfg as tag. If you use another key just create a tag.txt file and use that.
log-removable=wd-options.cfg
or
log-removable=tag.txt
Some additional settings:
use-write-same=true
solid-random=true
