The hardware testing process has to be done after each wipe. Some of the tests might create an error during the wipe process. Think of draining a battery, which leads to a shutdown of a laptop. If this happens during a Secure erasure process this might brick the hard drive.
For this a simplified process is created.
First step is to make the WipeDrive software drop to command line after the wipe. For this the option we can activate the reduced prompting option. This can be done in combination with some other settings.
# Used to suppress most "Press any key to continue" messages that appear while
# using the text mode version of wipedrive.
# It also will exit to a command prompt after finishing a wipe.
# Specifies the exit options displayed to the user at the operation summary screen.
# The available exit options are:
# 1) Reboot and Shutdown
# 2) Exit, Reboot and Shutdown
# 3) Exit only
# Once the erasure and logging operations have finished, an exit
# prompt will be displayed to the user.
# Once the erasure and logging operations have finished, the program
# will automatically exit to the command line, unless any erasures or
# logging attempts have failed.
# Once the erasure and logging operations have finished, the program will
# automatically exit to the command line, unless any logging attempts have failed.
Best advised setting would be:
This will make it only exit when there are no issues with the wipe or log saving.
